Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

In this chapter, we will introduce two new types of functions, exponential functions and logarithmic functions. These functions are used extensively in business and the sciences.

  • Finding Composite and Inverse Functions — finding and evaluating composite functions, determining whether a function is one-to-one, and finding inverse functions.
  • Evaluate and Graph Exponential Functions — graphing exponential functions, solving exponential equations, and using exponential models for growth, decay, and compound interest.
  • Evaluate and Graph Logarithmic Functions — converting between exponential and logarithmic forms, evaluating and graphing logarithmic functions, solving logarithmic equations, and using logarithmic models.
  • Use the Properties of Logarithms — expanding and condensing logarithmic expressions with the properties of logarithms and using the Change-of-Base Formula.
  • Solve Exponential and Logarithmic Equations — solving logarithmic equations with logarithm properties, solving exponential equations with logarithms, and using exponential models in applications.
